Description
What genre of literature contains magic, talking animals, and an emphasis on the unusual? Fairy tales, of course! The genre is, however, a bit difficult to define, exactly. A simple search on the Internet for “Fairy Tale” can leave you scratching your head in confusion because there is not a very clear set of ideas governing this genre. Here’s why. Fairy Tales began as a mixture of written and oral tradition, and to this day continue to evolve, like a ping-pong match between happy, child-friendly narratives and darker, magical, child-oriented narratives. From Grimm to Hans Christian Anderson to Disney, this is a literary genre that is forever reinventing itself. For this Challenge, teams of students will develop, script and shoot their own Fairy Tales. But there is a twist. In your Fairy Tale, two things must happen: 1) Something must disappear and then reappear; and 2) Your Fairy Tale’s primary character must have a drastic change in destiny over the course of your short scene.
