What’s Your Problem?

$15.00

This challenge asks teams of students to exercise their technical and scientific skills, intellect, and training to create a solution to a real world, local problem. The final product will be a 3-5 minute video demonstrating the problem and the form, function and economic viability of your solution inside a creative narrative. The narrative can be in a format of your own choosing – rap, movie trailer, comic skit, drama – and the creativity of the presentation is an integral part of the challenge.

Description

The world is looking for problem solvers. What problem do you want to solve? This Meridian Stories challenge engages teams of three to four students to exercise their technical and scientific skills, intellect, and training to create a solution to a real world, local problem. Your team needs to meet these four criteria to succeed: 1. define the problem – one that demands the utilization of appropriately complex STEM practices — and your proposed tactic to solve it; 2) design and test a physical solution; 3) provide detailed documentation and instruction, including specific materials, assembly and deployment, and power source if needed; and 4) present all of the above inside of a creative narrative format. The video component challenges your team to script and produce a how-to demonstration of your work in a relatively short but creative presentation in any format you choose. Your team’s ability to effectively communicate your work in an engaging and creative style is critical to the success of your project.
